“Marriage Arrangements in Babylonia and Their Impact on the Golah”

The paper seeks to collect the evidence of Westerners in urban Babylonian contexts in the first millennium BCE. It sketches their social reality, options for  integration and intermarriage. Based on observations of the Babylonian urban society and the elitarian urban habitus, the paper wants to shed new light on the social reality of the Golah in Babylonia. It is argued that the experience to be excluded by Babylonian social demarcation boundaries influenced the Golah and its marriage policy deeply and lead to some creative interpretations as well as to substantial transfers in biblical priestly and priestly influenced circles and literatures
