רקע אקדמי:
מחקריו של ד"ר ולדמן עוסקים בהיסטוריה חברתית ותרבותית של מזרח אירופה ורוסיה. לאחר השלמת הדוקטורט היה עמית פוסט-דוקטורט באוניברסיטת חיפה, באוניברסיטת פנסילבניה ובאוניברסיטת תל-אביב. ספרו "בעיות משמעת: חינוך תיכוני, אקטיביזם ומקורות האינטליגנציה היהודית באימפריה הרוסית" יראה בקרוב אור בהוצאת 'מאגנס'. מאמרים פרי עטו ראו אור בכתבי עת מובילים בארץ ובעולם.
מחקרו של ד"ר ולדמן במסגרת המרכז לחקר התפוצות עוסק בקשר שבין התפתחות רשת הרכבות באזורי אוקראינה – קרי דרום-מערב האימפריה הרוסית – למגמות של מודרניזציה, השתלבות וניעות חברתית בקרב היהודים במרחב זה.
