ארכיאולוגיה והיסטוריה אתיופית משלהי העת העתיקה ועד העת החדשה, ההיסטוריה, התרבות החומרית וחיי הרוח של יהודי אתיופיה, הגיאוגרפיה ההיסטורית של צפון הרמה האתיופית, הדינמיקה בין בני הדתות השונות בצפון אתיופיה, מקומות קדושים ובתי תפילה באתיופיה.

רקע אקדמי:

מחקר הדוקטורט של ד"ר קריבוס, באוניברסיטה העברית ובהנחיית פרופ' סטיבן קפלן ופרופ' יוסף פטריך, עסק בתרבות החומרית ובאורחות החיים של המֶלוֹכְּסֵווֹץּ' (הנזירים) של קהילת בתה ישראל (יהודי אתיופיה). חלק מרכזי במחקר זה היה סקר ארכיאולוגי שבמהלכו תועדו ונחקרו לראשונה מקומות שבהם התגוררו ופעלו המלוכסווץ', וביניהם מקומות קדושים של הקהילה.
ד"ר קריבוס היה חבר בפרוייקט המחקר JewsEast של ה-ERC, ולאחר מכן פוסט-דוקטורנט של ה- Minerva Stiftung במרכז ללימודי הדתות באוניברסיטת הרוהר, בוכום. מחקרו במהלך פוסט-דוקטורט זה עסק בגיאוגרפיה ההיסטורית ובתרבות החומרית של השלטון העצמי של קהילת בתה ישראל בהרי סְמֵן וסביבתם (המכונה בקרב הקהילה ממלכת הגדעונים) ושל מלחמותיו עם הממלכה הסולומונית הנוצרית (מאות 15–17). מחקרו הוביל לאיתור, בפעם הראשונה, של מעוזים של קהילת בתה ישראל ושל כנסיות שנבנו כדי להנציח נצחונות סולומוניים על קהילה זו.
ד"ר קריבוס היה פוסט-דוקטורנט של תכנית דן דוד לעמיתי בתר-דוקטורט בחקר העבר באוניברסיטת תל אביב. במסגרת זו ערך מחקר השוואתי של בתי התפילה של בני הדתות השונות בצפון אתיופיה. מחקרו הנוכחי, במסגרת המרכז לחקר התפוצות, עוסק ביחסים בין קהילת בתה ישראל ובין השלטונות הסולומוניים והחברה האתיופית הנוצרית (מאות 18–20). המחקר בוחן, לגבי כל אזור שבו ישבו בני הקהילה, כיצד המאפיינים הייחודיים של האזור ושל הקבוצות שישבו בו השפיעו על יחסים אלו.
כהוקרה על מחקריו על תולדות קהילת בתה ישראל ומורשתה, זכה ד"ר קריבוס בפרס דן דוד. כיום, משמש ד"ר קריבוס כמנהל מכון המחקר של המרכז למורשת יהדות אתיופיה.
