פרופ' גולדין הוא ראש המרכז לחקר התפוצות ע"ש גולדשטיין-גורן ופרופסור בחוג להיסטוריה של עם ישראל באוניברסיטת תל אביב, מתמחה בהיסטוריה של החברה היהודית בימי הביניים. כיהן כיושב ראש ועדת מקצוע ההיסטוריה בחינוך הממלכתי במשרד החינוך.
