The Israeli LGBTQ Pride Archive was established with the goal of creating a structured, comprehensive, and accessible body of knowledge documenting the LGBTQ history of Israel.
The Archive is a diverse and fascinating collection of historical sources documenting LGBTQ history in Israel. The collections include administrative documents, publications, press clippings, video clips, audio recordings, musical pieces, legal materials, personal letters, photographs, contracts, and artifacts.
Exploring Israel’s LGBTQ History
The archive invites anyone interested to explore the long journey the LGBTQ community in Israel has already taken, to discover the legacy of vibrant social activism, and to learn about the legal, political, media, and social struggles it has led - and continues to lead - in its fight for full equality.
The archive offers access to original source materials, including textual, media, legal, photographic, and more, as well as academic research from various disciplines related to the community.
The materials in the archive are classified by accessibility:
Most items are available for public viewing with proper copyright permissions; others are open for fair use - accessible for research and educational purposes only; and some are highly restricted due to copyright and privacy concerns and are stored in the archive but currently closed to public access.
The largest collections are: The Israeli LGBTQ Magazines and Journals Collection, which contains all LGBTQ publications from the 1970s onward, gathered for research and study, and The Association for LGBTQ Equality in Israel Collection, which documents 50 years of the association’s existence - the largest and most significant LGBTQ organization in Israel.
