"The Anthropology of Ethics: Retrospect and Prospect"

The anthropology of ethics emerged around the turn of the millennium, as a new focus of interest and a new set of concerns and debates within the discipline, and as a set of new possibilities for interdisciplinary engagement. Although this development has come to be referred to as the ‘ethical turn’ in anthropology, just what if anything was really new about it has been a matter of debate. This lecture surveys the intellectual sources of the anthropology of ethics, the way the field has developed over the past two decades, and emerging themes.
