"Mirroring the Self and the Other: The Politics of Identity and Religious Imaginary in sub-Saharan Africa"
The lecture seeks to contextualize the Self within the socio-cultural ambience and religious imaginaries of sub-Saharan Africa, showing its fluid, paradoxical nature as both autonomous and interdependent. Drawing concrete examples from indigenous religious worldviews and African Christianities, the lecture shall demonstrate how and to what extent the relationality of the Self is an important dynamic for constructing and negotiating identity and belonging.
