"I felt an atmosphere of “somebody takes care of me"

As a foreign student, I went through a long journey in writing my dissertation.  Collaboration of humanities questions with petrographic methods was new to me. However, throughout the time, professor Oded Lipschits and professor Yuval Goren, my supervisors, consistently supported me with great interest. Whenever I visited the School of Jewish studies and Archaeology, I felt an atmosphere of “somebody takes care of me”.

My dream was to illustrate the biblical world out of texts into something “tangible” especially in ritualistic aspects. I decided to deal with the major ritualistic artifacts from the kingdom of Judah, so-called Judean pillar figurines, which dominate Judahite sites. It was both a real challenge and a great pleasure to build a new typological scheme accoring to the figurines’ “genealogy” and to investigate their spatial and temporal evolvements.

I currently belong to Institute of Christian Humanities in South Korea. I work on publications from my dissertation and on research of related interest.  As one who has an affection on both Israel and South Korea, I hope to serve as a cultural bridge between both countries. To my mind ancient Israel and modern South Korea can be communicative with each other especially in cognitive aspects like social values and beliefs. By comparing cultural data from both sides, I hope to “contextualize” the cognitive and cultural aspects from ancient Israel into South Korean culture.
