Why did Neanderthals go extinct and why are Komodo dragons so big?

The role of modeling and null models in ecology and evolution

In this talk I’ll discuss the utility of generative/dynamic modeling in studying ecological and evolutionary processes. In particular, through two examples of long-standing puzzles that I tackled in my own research, I will show how null models that describe neutral dynamics may explain more than is often appreciated.
